3 Crucial Things Children Learn in Quality Preschool Programs

The benefits of early childhood education are numerous and lifelong. A child develops faster and wholesomely in mental, physical, and social aspects. A good quality preschool program will lay a good foundation for your child's academic learning. They develop literacy and language skills as well as develop cognitive skills. Unfortunately, many parents fail to appreciate the value of preschool programs because they don't know what their children stand to gain. What will your child learn through a preschool program?

1. Language and Speaking

Language is important because it is the medium of learning in and out of class. Attending a preschool program exposes your child to scenarios where they can learn new language skills. The teacher will introduce new vocabulary and encourage your child to use longer sentences. It forces your child to develop thinking, to put the words together.

Preschool programs also develop speaking skills by presenting children with different interaction scenarios; speaking to the teacher, in a group, and one-on-one with another child. It also develops children's confidence in expressing themselves.

2. Basic Literacy

Preschool programs are key in developing basic literacy in reading and writing. For example, phonics programs help children correlate sounds and letters. They also learn the alphabet in fun songs and rhymes.

A child also starts developing writing skills by drawing squiggles and doodles, which help develop their skills in using crayons and pencils. With time, the teacher will show them to write the letters of the alphabet. At the end of a good-quality preschool program, your child should be able to write his/her name.

These early literacy classes also have basic Math classes where your child will learn basic counting by practical demonstration. Your child will also learn basic shapes and patterns and how to draw them.

3. Physical Education

Perhaps the most exciting time for children in preschool programs is playtime. Preschool educators teach most of the concepts in entertaining games. A big chunk of the time is also spent playing classic children's games, dancing, and pretense games.

Physical activity is crucial for growing children because it develops their motor skills. They develop better hand-to-eye coordination. A child will also develop good muscle and bone structure.

Playing with other children also develops a child's social skills because of different interactions. For example, games that require tag partners help a child understand social dynamics and group interaction. They also learn to read other people's intentions and unspoken communication and emotions in facial expressions.
